The Gavel and the Lotus

In 1890, Mark Finchley, a modest Bible teacher from Cornwall, journeys to the foreboding estate of Isis Hill to meet the young woman his nephew hopes to wed. There he comes face to face with her father, Sir Silas Godfreya celebrated retired judge of the Old Bailey whose whose sanctity may be little more than a mask. What begins as a courteous family visit unfurls into a descent through desire, deception, and a curse whispered through generations. As the shadows of Isis Hill tighten around him, Finchley must decide whether Sir Godfrey is a benevolent patriarchor a man who has usurped Gods throne, dispensing judgment according to his own dark creed. The Gavel and the Lotus is a Victorian Gothic tale of moral unraveling, divine reckoning, and the treacherous labyrinth of the human soul.
